District Campsites

Lutheran Camps have been a vital part of the district's ministry for many years. Camps are an ideal way to build new relationships and strengthen and renew old ones.

The district have oversight over two Camps located in Anglesea and Halls Gap. Araluen Lutheran Camp, located in Anglesea can accommodate up to 150 individuals and is undergoing a substantial extension at the present time. Tandara Lutheran Camp in Halls Gap has recently celebrated 50 years of Camping Ministry. Tandara Camp offers an annual Intern program.

The two Lutheran camps offer a variety of regular camps open to all but focusing on special interests like:

  • 500 cards camp – play 500 all weekend
  • UFO camp – bring your unfinished (craft) objects
  • Family camp
  • Kids camp

The camps also host district and churchwide LCA events, such as youth and young adult camps, Grassroots Training, Lutheran Women of Victoria retreats, and Lutheran Men of Victoria 'Men Led by God' camps to name a few.

Steve Burger and Darren Linke are the managers of Araluen and Tandara respectively. Darren writes '...camping ministry here at Tandara is one which I love and certainly brings a new dimension to every new day. To be able to see God working with and through the people who come here as well as the staff and my family is amazing. God has certainly blessed Tandara and I can’t wait to see where and how God will work next.'

District Sponsorship Program

The District Sponsorship Program (DSP) arose out of a direction by Synod to:

  • use assets effectively, encouraging more support for mission and ministry
  • explore funding models outside of congregational giving
  • achieve new churches planted
  • seek sustainable ministry
  • establish a systematic committed generation of funds around particular projects – namely church planting and youth and young adult ministries.

Support of the DSP includes but is not limited to financial assistance, prayer and advocacy.

Sponsorship rather than a one-off donation has been chosen as the model in order that commitment is made to keep these projects going. These ministries are the way our church can grow into the future. These ministries allow us to make a difference in peoples’ lives – including our existing members.

How to sponsor

Individually, in a sponsorship group (perhaps your small group or guild), or as a congregation, choose a project and financial goal then sign up by contacting us via email sponsorship.vic@lca.org.au

You can also get straight into things by making a payment electronically to your chosen project!

Payments can be made electronically via your bank through the 'pay anyone' option. Make the payment to:

Account name LCAVD
BSB 033 172
Account number 117564

Please include in the transaction comments the code for the chosen project and your initial and surname. Then email us to let us know you have signed up! We’ll get you set up to receive project updates.

District Sponsorship program

District Sponsorship Program

BE IT RESOLVED that Convention supports the establishment of a District Sponsorship Program (DSP) to replace the single District Appeal between Conventions and that the DSP be focused at supporting the District’s Strategic Initiative #1, especially Youth and Young Adults Ministry and Church Planting.
—2016 Victorian District Synod resolution

The District Sponsorship Program arose out of a direction by Synod to establish the systematically committed raising of funds around two specific projects, church planting and Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

This is an opportunity to participate and encourage the growth of the gospel at ground level through providing financial assistance and by prayer and advocacy.

The district Youth and Young Adult Ministry team (YYAM) supports young people through camping ministry, worship (Sunday Night at St Johns – SNAS), and in transition as teens move from school into further education, work life, travel and perhaps moving away from home. YYAM can help put networks around them as this unfolds.

Renew is the means by which tired or struggling congregations can be revitalised through discernment around their activities and strengths and a focus on ‘letting go’ to move forward. New church planting is the opportunity for existing mature churches to ‘plant’ a community of believers in a new location. Support, mentoring and training will be offered through the Congregational Support Department at a district level. The message of hope is then able to spread locally and organically in different cultural contexts.

Sponsorship, rather than a one-off donation, has been chosen as the model in order that commitment is made to keep these projects going. These ministries are the way our church can grow into the future. These ministries allow us to make a difference in peoples’ lives – including our existing members.

The spiritual welfare of our youth and young adults is very much at the heart of many congregations. Grants and Trusts

There are several Grants and Trusts available to congregations of the Lutheran Church of Australia to establish or enhance the mission and ministry programs.

Mission Stimulus Grant

What would you change in your community? The grant aims to enable Congregations to set aside financial worries and focus on exploring new and innovative ways of connecting with their local communities through mission and outreach.
Dare to dream!

  • How? Create an initiative, expand on an idea or concept that has been dreamed about, but not thought possible because of the lack of resources or cost.
    Celebrate being changemakers!
  • Who? The grant is open for applications from all Vic/Tas congregations/parishes as well as to collaborative projects between congregations/parishes.
  • Do it! A plan is essential. This needs to take the form of a practical proposal for real action in local mission using a budget of $25,000 (or more, if additional funds could be raised locally).

Congregation and Migrant Ministry Support Facilitator

erin.grainger@lca.org.au

The 2019 Mission Stimulus Grant process will open in the second quarter of 2019. Standby for more information and an application form or email Erin now.

Lutheran Welfare Trust

The Lutheran Welfare Trust was created to contribute towards the support or establishment of welfare projects primarily within the Lutheran Church. This Trust is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, and as an Income Exempt Charitable Entity.

The Trust was established to provide relief to those who are in necessitous circumstances, which according to the Commissioner of Taxation definition, involves some degree of poverty. To the extent possible, the Trustees take a broad approach to this definition, although the Trustees must still be bound by the description. Careful consideration should be given to this definition in the application for funds.

In 2017, the Trust distributed $15,200 to organizations within the Victorian District, for aged care and refugee support projects.

The Trustees are seeking applications for the funding of welfare related projects that are tax deductible, not for specific individual welfare cases. Application forms are available on request.
