District Convention of Synod

Convention of Synod is a coming together of congregational lay delegates, church leaders, officials and clergy, primarily to conduct the business of the Lutheran Church of Australia, Victoria - Tasmania District. It is the District's Annual General Meeting.

Convention also serves spiritual and fellowship purposes. The schedule includes worship, celebrations and the opportunity to catch up with old friends or make some new ones!

Parking
- If parking at Good Shepherd, please follow directions of parking attendants.
- Limited parking is available onsite at Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School. For accessible parking, please use carpark on Golden Ridge Drive (refer to above map).
- Limited additional parking will be available via Luther College Gate 9 on Plymouth Rd.
- Please utilise available street parking nearby if these carparks are full.

Registration is essential for all delegates.

Registrations will open on Friday 28 Aug, and will close on Friday 18 Sept.

Visitors must also register, to assist us with planning and catering.

FEES

Convention Delegate = $229
- All day-time catering is included.

Proposals and Reports

District Church Council call for proposals affecting the Mission, Ministries and Governance of the District to Convention.

Proposals must be submitted to the District Office no later than Sunday 19 July 2026

Proposals must be submitted on the Convention Proposal template.

While it is technically possible to bring proposals to the floor of Synod, this can only occur by the passing of a resolution by the delegates on the floor of Synod.
It is recommended that proposals are submitted by the due date so that delegates are able to properly consider the proposals.

Reports are due by Monday 3 August, at latest, so they can be collated into the Book of Reports.

Nominations and Elections

Standing Councils

The district Nominations & Elections Committee will receive nominations for the District Standing Councils of District Church Council (DCC) and Ministry & Mission Council (MMC).

Nominations to DCC and MMC are to be submitted by Friday 21 August to be included in the Nominations Booklet.
Nominees will need to have a current WWCC and Level 1 Safe Church Training (by the start of Synod).

LCAVD Nomination Form:

District Bishop and Assistant Bishop

Elections will be held for the positions of District Bishop and Assistant Bishop. The current Bishop’s term concludes at the end of 2026. The Assistant Bishop (Chair of Pastor’s Conference) is elected at every District Convention.

Pastors will be asked to submit nominations to the Nominations Committee. At Pastors’ Conference (30 Sept to 2 Oct), a ballot will be taken to shortlist the candidates. Those candidates will then be brought to District Convention of Synod for election. The candidates not elected will automatically be eligible for election to Assistant Bishop (by consent), if they are pastors of this District.

While it is technically possible to bring nominations for District Bishop to the floor of Synod it must be agreed by resolution of the delegates, and then name(s) agreed to by further individual vote(s) in a show of hands, in addition to confirmation that the pastor accepts nomination.
