COVID 19 information for congregations

The Premier’s media centre has provided two press releases regarding easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria
Friday 17 February in effect now
Tuesday 22 February in effect now

Face masks will no longer be required in most indoor settings (at 11.59pm Friday 25 February)
Places of worship are open to full capacity (no density quotient)
Mandatory vaccination requirements do not apply to people attending places of worship (volunteers in leading roles are required to have second dose vaccination)
An updated COVID safe plan remains a requirement
The COVID safe plan should include information on the response if a COVID infection is reported
Display appropriate signage about good hygiene and other COVID safe practices
It is recommended ventilation is maximized for gathering spaces
It is recommended that public spaces are cleaned regularly
Due to the risks of COVID-19, food, drinks, crockery, utensils and vessels (such as spoons and cups) or other communal equipment should not be shared by attendees. However, this is permitted (for Religion & Ceremony) under current COVIDSafe Settings*. If food or drinks is to be shared, servers should wash their hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser after handling used crockery and cutlery. All communal equipment should be thoroughly cleaned between uses.

*If the use of the common cup is resumed at this time we recommend due consideration and care for all members and particularly for vulnerable people, and that it be cleaned with an alcohol wipe between each communicant.

Under current restrictions in Victoria some workers are required to receive a booster vaccination. At this time it is not yet mandatory for religious workers (including volunteers) with regard to places of worship.  If sighting proof of second dose of vaccine has not yet been recorded please ensure this happens immediately. Please note that if visiting in a school, hospital or aged care centre or other care facility these agencies will have higher level requirements.

The Victorian COVID hotline number is 1800 675 398. Please call this number for advice specific to your circumstances.

Emmanuel at St Paul’s Warragul/Darnum

“What do you think? Look OK?”

“Yeah. Everyone’s smiling. And waving too! Great.

That will be lovely to share.”

Christmas is certainly an important occasion for families. At St Paul’s Warragul/Darnum, as with all congregations, our church family is also important and we still keep our brothers and sisters in Christ who have moved away in our hearts. So, this last Christmas we decided to send a photo of the congregation and a Christmas greeting to our members who have moved to other places including those now overseas. And what a joyful response we received in return for this little gift. Emmanuel – God with us all as family again.

Part time position available – Worship Coordinator, St Paul’s Box Hill

St Paul’s Lutheran Church Box Hill is seeking a dedicated and proactive person to fill the role of Worship Coordinator. This 2 day per week role ensures the delivery of weekly worship to the congregation by building on the long history of music in worship, and the delivery of a quality in-person and online service. Combining a passion for worship with preparation of administrative requirements for worship, including rostering and preparation of PowerPoint presentations and worship communications, this role will provide scope to help the congregation receive God’s grace and gifts through worship. The role works closely with our Worship Committee, bands, organists and choir.

The role is available for commencement in early February 2022, and employment under LCA Lay Worker Level 2 Pay Point 2 is expected (pro rata, 2 days per week).

Download the Position description HERE
Applications close 21 February 2022.

For further information please contact the St Pauls Vice Chair, Kathy Harrison on vicechair@stpaulsboxhill.org.au or 0419 359 149.

Celebrating Cecile by Pr Janos Dabasy (em)

I would like to share the happy news about the ‘junior’ of our congregation (Hungarian Lutheran Congregation of Victoria)  turning 100 in February. The attached photo was taken of Cecile arriving at church last Sunday. This was the last worship service in her ‘last century’. The next time we worship together she will be in her new century!

Cecile has a large family including many grandchildren. She is one of the original members of our congregation, dating back to the late 1950’s. She was and is one of the regular members. I can count on my fingers how many times she was away in 60+ years. Up to about six years ago she was still driving, but now problems with her eyesight prevents her from that. She still lives by herself and goes shopping (taken by her daughters). She is always happy and cheerful, she is an example of a faithful Christian.  May God bless her with good health and may He bless us with her company for years to come.
