There are several Grants and Trusts available to congregations of the Lutheran Church of Australia to establish or enhance the mission and ministry programs.
What would you change in your community? The grant aims to enable Congregations to set aside financial worries and focus on exploring new and innovative ways of connecting with their local communities through mission and outreach.

The Lutheran Welfare Trust was created to contribute towards the support or establishment of welfare projects primarily within the Lutheran Church. This Trust is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, and as an Income Exempt Charitable Entity.
The Trust was established to provide relief to those who are in necessitous circumstances, which according to the Commissioner of Taxation definition, involves some degree of poverty. To the extent possible, the Trustees take a broad approach to this definition, although the Trustees must still be bound by the description. Careful consideration should be given to this definition in the application for funds.
In 2017, the Trust distributed $15,200 to organizations within the Victorian District, for aged care and refugee support projects.
The Trustees are seeking applications for the funding of welfare related projects that are tax deductible, not for specific individual welfare cases. Application forms are available on request.

Every Sunday the offering plate comes past you again in church. To whom, or to what, are you giving? I’m not looking for an answer like ‘To God, of course’. Where do you believe your money is going? Christians are called to be generous. If your gift is going to help your congregation meet its budget, you may not be passionately moved to give generously. Budgets are hard to get really enthused about – unless you’re a congregation treasurer! We don’t give to budgets; we give so that people may be better equipped to do God’s work. Or we give to meet the needs of people who are hurting in some way. Or we give so that our pastor may continue to equip us for our ministries. Or so that new pastors, lay workers and teachers may be trained. Or so that some lonely person listening to a radio may hear the gospel. We are called to be generous. We are called to help people.’
—From a devotion by Bob Turnbull, in ‘New Strength for each Day’ (LCA, Openbook, 1998)
Planned giving from congregations to the district is a very important part of each congregational budget. Planned giving supports the staffing of the District Office, which in turn provides support back through training, assistance with advice, managing risk and the various other high-level administrative and compliance tasks that arise in our congregational communities.

Lutheran Hospital Chaplaincy is offered on a regular basis to Lutheran patients in the inner-city hospitals of Melbourne by a part time District Hospital Chaplain. Currently the Hospital Chaplain role is vacant. Pr Gordon Wegener, District Pastor for Service and Witness, is acting in this role.
Chaplaincy is offered to Lutheran patients, many coming to Melbourne for critical care from across Victoria and nearby states, some for a short-term stay, and others for a slow and complex return to health, where their lives may be forever changed. Patients and their families express appreciation for Lutheran pastoral care during their stay in hospital.
With the patient’s permission, you may contact the acting District Hospital Chaplain Pastor Gordon Wegener to arrange a visit to Melbourne inner suburbs hospitals.
Melbourne hospitals regularly covered are Alfred; Austin/Repat; Cabrini; Caritas Christi; Epworth Richmond; Epworth Freemasons; St Vincent's Private East Melbourne; St Vincent's Private Fitzroy; Mercy Heidelberg; Mercy Private; Peter MacCallum; Royal Children’s; Royal Melbourne; Royal Women’s; St Vincent’s; and St Vincent’s Private.
For pastoral care to patients in hospitals other than those listed above, please contact the District Office, who can direct you to the local pastor in the area.
District Hospital Chaplaincy is partly funded through donations to the District Lenten Appeal and by funds raised by the This n That Community Store.

God calls many of us to serve and lead in ministry, and in many different ways! Jesus was the ultimate servant leader, and we as Christians strive to follow his example. Whether you like being up the front or not, whether you are an introvert or extrovert, we always need people to step up to God’s call to lead by example in many ministry contexts.
There are many opportunities to serve and lead, depending on your passions and skills! Can you answer 'yes' to some of these questions?

Leadership isn’t just for young adults. Research has shown that youth need significant adults in their lives apart from direct family, and serving in a leadership role can be a vital connection to a young person today! One way you can do this is to come along to an LYV camp as a ‘camp parent.’
Here is one testimony:
If you would like to spend a free week in the Grampians with your family (or it can be a husband and wife), please contact the Lutheran Youth of Victoria (LYV) as soon as possible. It’s not a difficult thing to do; it’s how Darren and I got into the camping thing. You can either sit in on the studies, which are great, and you do get a cheat's version of the study booklet giving you some talking points. Or you can just sit by the fire, play table tennis, pool, enjoy the sunshine in the beautiful surrounds of Tandara. You are just there as camp parents for the kids and the LYV. Some of the kids might ask you about your life and how God has been an impact on it, or they may just want you to pray for them.
It is a truly amazing week for you and your family at times it can be mentally and physically challenging but you are not alone as everyone is feeling the same way. It’s so inspiring to see so many youths together for the week, and you will be glad you did it!

This page has information on camps for young people between 13–30 years.
For teenagers in high school
A camp for high schoolers, CLW occurs during the winter and spring school holidays at Tandara Lutheran Campsite in Halls Gap. These vibrant and Christ-filled events bring together teenagers from across the states, mixing both country and city, and are led by groups of committed and enthusiastic volunteers, including camp parents and a camp pastor.
The purpose of CLW is to provide an experience of Christian community within a safe environment in which young people can:

For ages 16–30; from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday
Easter Camp provides an opportunity for young people to go deeper with their faith and explore Christ’s sacrifice on the cross in small groups and whole camp worship. The camp is held at Araluen Lutheran Camp, Anglesea.
Easter Camp is built around the fellowship of the cross and the community of believers. It celebrates individual components of the greater church body gathering together to profess their faith in the events of Easter; that Jesus Christ, the one true son of God, was crucified for the sake and sins of the world, and three days later rose again triumphant over death.
More information, including how to register, will be available soon. See also the LYV Facebook page or Vic–Tas District Facebook page for updates.
Camps always need your support, and you can offer this in many ways!

These busy but critical times in the lives of many of our young people. We look forward to working with people and congregations to make sure that those who are moving or starting new endeavours are welcomed and encouraged in faith communities.
Please contact Maya Kraj-Krajewski if you, or someone you know, is a young adult who is leaving secondary school or moving around the state.

Sunday Night at St Johns occurs weekly at 6.00pm at St John's Lutheran Church Southgate. We’re looking forward to the excitement of having guest preachers because of the current pastor vacancy.
Empower is an annual event focused on ministry with young people, but will be of benefit to anyone who attends.
We thank all those who support the Lutheran Youth of Victoria events this year that help keep the young people of the district connected into a vibrant community.
